My Journey
I was very complimented when the Women's College of Dubai asked if I would speak to them about "How do you hire the right person, and what to do when you hire the wrong person!" The session was well over an hour via Skype. IT was as much a thrill for me to be asked as an honour for me to spend this time in open discussion with a class of very excited women entering their own self employment journey, or employed in a management position. It is my hope to do more of this type of connecting.
The journey to self employment has been eventful, exciting and continues to be so, as I meet with small businesses who are expanding and growing. It is an honour to be extended the trust I've been given. Although it was never in my original goal set to become self employed, it is where I am most satisfied. While in beautiful London Canada, I turned my sights to become a published writer. I was offered a feature writer post with the prestigious 'Western Ontario Business News'. Each month I'd discuss economical promotion ideas with tips on developing successful advertising strategies. (Order a published copy of the series, through the contact page.)While on this writer's journey, I implemented a workshop introducing small business owners to government funding resources, in partnership with the London Public library. I met a brillant graphic artist who needed to diversify his client base. Earning a very good living from only two major clients (IBM & Northern Life) could prove to become problematic. My previous corporate experience with 'Crown Life / Toronto Head Office' would suit me well as I welcomed the new challenge. We were successful in attracting contracts with the London Transit System, KayserRoth, Little Caesar's Pizza, Stihl, as regular clients of creative design & printing. One design project alone, was billed out at over $26,000.00 - paid in full and up front. (in the 1980's) My career experienced the gamut from organizaing trade fairs to publishing newsletters and product documents. So, Grapevine is not limited by the offers discussed in this website.
